One Cigarette Still Increases Risk Of Early Death

One Cigarette Can Still Cause Early Death While Quitting From Smoking Extend Life Span

Cigarette smoking is one of the leading cause of death of many people worldwide, even just one cigarette per day has still a higher risk of early death.

Smoking even one cigarette per day can still increase the risk of early death compare to non-smokers, according to Maki Inoue-Choi, a researcher at the National Cancer Institute in Rockville, Maryland.

Tobacco contains thousands of toxic chemicals that are tested and proven dangerous for our health. The cigarette doesn’t contain any benefits to the human health, therefore, smoking even on tobacco per day decreases the lifespan of a person.

Inoue-Choi said that most smokers in the world were light smokers, which means they are smoking less than half a pack of cigarette per day. But through the years, cigarette intake is increasing and make it tougher for a person to quit smoking.

In a survey last 2004 and 2005, researchers recorded more than 290,000 adults with an age ranging from 59 to 82, more than 22, 000 present smokers, and over 156, 000 smokers.

JAMA Internal Medicine researchers reported in 2011, that people who smoke at least one cigarette a day has 64 percent of the early death of any cause compare to people who never tried cigarette smoking.

People who smoke 1 to 10 cigarettes a day has 87 percent risk of early death for any cause. The risk of lung cancer is 9 times higher t those who smoke once a day, while light smokers have 12 times risk of having lung cancer.

Light smokers have still higher risks of having serious diseases which may cause further complications in the future and the worst may lead smokers to death. Quitting smoking at an early age can reduce the risk of early death.

“The take-home message is that all smokers should stop smoking, even if they smoke only occasionally, or if they smoke very few cigarettes a day,” said by Jean-Francois Etter, a researcher at the University of Geneva in Switzerland but wasn’t involved in the study quoted by ABS-CBN.

Quitting from cigarette smoking as soon as possible can help smokers attain greater health benefits in extending their lifespan on the planet.
