Authorities Intercepted Smuggled Cigarettes in Zamboanga City
Police authorities have intercepted the P4.6 million worth of alleged smuggled cigarettes in Zamboanga City.
Smuggled cigarettes were caught in three different operations in Zamboanga City on Thursday and Friday morning, according to the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao (APC-WM). During the operation, eight smugglers were apprehended.
The four suspects were identified by APC-WM operations chief Col. Richard Verseles as Ali Julkanain, 26, and Mujibar Sharipa, 45, both crew members of the motor boat “Piranha,” and Julpikar Dasid, 42, and Jomar Acbal, 32, both crew members of the motor boat “Wranglers,” both crew members of the motor boat “Piranha,” while they were aboard their respective boats off the coast of Barangay Ay
The smokes came from Jolo, Sulu, Verseles said, according to the report. Another suspect, Brazil Mudjahirin, was apprehended after a brief chase along the Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat highway in Sitio Catumbal, Brgy. Culianan. Smuggled cigarettes worth P200,000 were aprehended.
Another operation in Brgy San Roque involved Ibrahin Irilis, 32, Sabturan Malam, 40, and Jibral Esad, 29. They were caught with P2.2 million worth of cigarettes loaded from a van. The case against the eight individuals is already being prepared by authorities.
