According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as of December 27, 2023, the current weather analysis for the entire country has been released. The primary effect is attributed to the Northeast Monsoon affecting Luzon and the Easterlies affecting the eastern parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
In the provinces of Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Aurora, and Quezon, cloudy skies with rains are expected due to the Northeast Monsoon. This may potentially result in flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
In the regions of Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol, and Palawan, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are anticipated, caused by the Easterlies or localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
For Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected due to the Northeast Monsoon. No significant impact is foreseen in these areas.
Wind and coastal conditions are also expected to be affected by the current weather conditions. In Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon, strong northeast winds with rough coastal waters (2.8 to 4.0 meters) are anticipated. In the rest of Luzon and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao, moderate to strong east-to-northeast winds with moderate to rough coastal waters (1.2 to 3.1 meters) are expected. The rest of the country is expected to experience light to moderate northeast winds with slight to moderate coastal waters (0.6 to 2.5 meters).
The early announcement from PAGASA is crucial for citizens to prepare for the potential effects of the current weather conditions. Through advice and warnings from authorities, the safety of the people can be maintained, and the potential damage from natural disasters can be reduced.
