As of this afternoon, August 28, 2024, the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as “Habagat,” continues to affect Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and the Visayas. Pagasa has issued a comprehensive weather forecast and advisory for the impacted areas.
Forecasted Weather Conditions
- Metro Manila, MIMAROPA, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas: These areas are expected to experience monsoon rains brought about by the Southwest Monsoon. The public should be alert to the possibility of flash floods and landslides, especially in areas prone to such hazards due to moderate to heavy rains.
- Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan: Occasional rains are forecasted in these provinces, also due to the Southwest Monsoon. As with the other regions, there is a risk of flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
- Visayas, Bicol Region, the rest of Central Luzon, the rest of CALABARZON, and Pangasinan: These areas will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers or thunderstorms. The monsoon rains in these regions could lead to possible flash floods or landslides.
- The rest of the country: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected, caused by localized thunderstorms. In some instances, severe thunderstorms could lead to flash floods or landslides.
Wind and Coastal Water Conditions
- Luzon and Visayas: Light to moderate winds from the southwest are expected, resulting in slight to moderate coastal waters, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
- Mindanao: Light to moderate winds from the south to southwest are forecasted, leading to similar coastal water conditions with wave heights between 0.6 and 2.1 meters.
