As of 3:00 AM on August 19, 2024, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reports that Tropical Storm “Dindo” (international name: Jongdari) was located 635 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h, with gustiness reaching up to 80 km/h, and is currently moving northeastward at a speed of 10 km/h. Extreme Northern Luzon, particularly Batanes and Babuyan Islands, is experiencing the effects of the southwest monsoon.
Forecast Weather Conditions:
- Batanes and Babuyan Islands
These areas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, primarily due to the southwest monsoon. Moderate to heavy rains may lead to possible flash floods or landslides, especially in low-lying areas and those prone to landslides. - Metro Manila and the Rest of the Country
The capital and the rest of the Philippines can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms brought about by localized thunderstorms. Although weather conditions are generally fair, residents should still be cautious of flash floods or landslides during intense thunderstorms.
Wind and Coastal Water Conditions:
- Wind Speed: Light to moderate winds from the southeast to the southwest will be prevalent nationwide.
- Coastal Waters: Sea conditions will range from slight to moderate, with waves reaching 0.6 to 2.1 meters in height, making the seas navigable but potentially challenging for small seacrafts.
Additional Forecast for Other Regions:
- Visayas, Palawan (including Kalayaan Islands), and Occidental Mindoro
These regions are predicted to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Like the rest of the country, wind speeds will be light to moderate, and coastal waters will remain slightly moderate.
While Tropical Storm “Dindo” continues its path northeastward away from the country, residents in affected regions, especially Northern Luzon, are advised to remain vigilant. Pagasa continues to monitor the weather system and will provide updates as necessary. Those living in areas prone to flooding or landslides must prepare accordingly.
