The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued its weather forecast for August 21, 2024, highlighting the influence of easterlies on the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao.
Forecast Weather Conditions
Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region:
Residents in Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These weather conditions are primarily caused by the easterlies—warm winds coming from the east. While the weather may seem relatively calm, Pagasa warns of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.
Metro Manila and the Rest of the Country:
In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the weather is predicted to be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These localized thunderstorms can develop quickly, bringing sudden downpours that may lead to flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to these hazards.
Wind and Coastal Water Conditions
For those in the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao, the wind speed is expected to be light to moderate, coming from the east to southeast. Coastal waters in these areas will be slightly moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters. These conditions are relatively safe for small boats, though caution is advised during thunderstorms.
In the rest of the country, winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast to southwest. Similar to the eastern regions, coastal waters will be slight to moderate, with wave heights also ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
Temperature and Humidity Extremes
The temperature and relative humidity in Metro Manila over the past 24 hours ranged from a minimum temperature of 25.1°C at 6:30 AM to a maximum of 34.6°C at 1:00 PM. Relative humidity varied from a low of 53% at 1:00 PM to a high of 92% at 5:00 AM. These conditions reflect typical warm and humid weather, characteristic of the region during this time of year.
Tides and Astronomical Information
Tide levels over Metro Manila today are as follows: Low tide was recorded at 2:37 AM at 0.44 meters, and another low tide is expected at 6:40 PM at 0.02 meters. High tides are expected at 12:42 AM at 0.46 meters and 10:44 AM at 1.4 meters. Residents and those involved in coastal activities should take note of these tides.
Pagasa continues to monitor the weather and advises the public to stay updated with the latest information.
