The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued the December 26, 2024 weather forecast. Current atmospheric conditions indicate that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affects Mindanao, while the Northeast Monsoon continues to influence Northern Luzon. Below is a detailed forecast of weather conditions and potential impacts across the country.
Weather Conditions
Mindanao and Palawan: Residents of Mindanao and Palawan can expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms brought about by the ITCZ. Pagasa warns of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.
Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region: The Northeast Monsoon will bring cloudy skies with rains over these regions. Moderate to heavy rains are expected, which could result in flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.
Ilocos Region: The Ilocos Region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon. No significant impacts are anticipated.
Metro Manila and the Rest of the Country: The forecasted forecast is partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These localized thunderstorms may lead to flash floods or landslides in some areas during severe weather conditions.
Forecast Wind and Coastal Water Conditions
Northern Luzon: Strong winds from the northeast will prevail, causing rough coastal waters with wave heights ranging from 2.8 to 4.0 meters.
Rest of Luzon and Eastern Sections of Visayas and Mindanao: Moderate to strong winds from the northeast will result in moderate to rough seas, with wave heights between 2.1 and 3.7 meters.
Rest of the Country: Light to moderate winds from the northeast will create slight to moderate sea conditions, with wave heights between 0.6 and 2.5 meters.
