Medical Detoxification Package To Be Provided By PhilHealth With Drug Dependent Members

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has approved to provide detoxification package for its eligible members who depend on drugs.

President Duterte is now making effort to abolish illegal drugs in the country. In line with his anti-illegal drug campaign, different groups and sectors in the Philippines have already started to make an effort in addressing drug addiction in the country.

Government agencies are also making a move in supporting Duterte’s war on drugs. Philhealth has approved the P10, 000 package rate for the medical detoxification package based on PhilHealth Circular No. 2016-0030.

The medical detoxification package can be avail by all eligible PhilHealth members and all who needs the service of the National Health Insurance Program. The detoxification package can only be avail once, according to the health agency.

Provision of minimum standards is ensuring by the health agency on giving medical intervention to manage the physical symptoms safely. The symptoms of withdrawal occur upon stopping the consumption of illegal drugs through the use medical detoxification package.

The medical detoxification package in not the only treatment for drug abuse and addiction, according to Ramon Aristoza Jr, PhilHealth OIC-President and CEO.

“Medical detoxification must be implemented together with the collaborative and the concerted efforts of pertinent agencies that shall address the challenges of drug addiction in terms of the personal, health and societal aspects of drug rehabilitation,” said by Aristoza quoted by Inquirer.

Complete blood count, chest X-ray, ECG, blood sugar, serum, creatinine, urine test, physical, mental, and neurological exams are included in the package. This package can be one of the keys in resolving the issue on illegal drugs.

Previously, rehabilitation centers nationwide were prepared by private and public sectors related to the effort of the president in abolishing illegal drugs in the country.
