The statement of Tito Sotto that there are no transman and transwoman in any dictionary elicits reactions from netizens
Senate President Tito Sotto stated that there are no such terms as transman and transwoman in any dictionary and this received various reactions from netizens.
Sotto is one of the Senators in the Philippines who expressed that he is against the SOGIE Bill also known as the anti-discrimination law concentrating on the “rights” of the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community. Based on the report from Philippine Entertainment Portal, the Senate President said that the said bill will never pass into law.
“We can safely say, and we have studied this proposition already, there is no need for it. It is a redundancy,” Sotto stated. He added that every Filipino individual is already protected by the law and there is no need to just focus on a particular sector.
He also stated that his fellow senators will also vote against the SOGIE Bill. Reportedly, Senators Joel Villanueva and Cynthia Villar already expressed that they are also against the said bill. Sotto stressed out that there are more who will support them when the time will come.
Meanwhile, his post criticizing the transman and transwoman was scrutinized by netizens. Sen. Tito Sotto shared this on his Twitter account: “Just to set the record straight, I said there is no such word as transwoman or transman in any dictionary!” With this, several netizens commented with a screenshot of the terms explained by the dictionary.
