Davao City mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte threw a joke on Friday, April 1, 2016 against his presidential rival Mar Roxas if he wins the presidency in the May 9 nationwide elections.
According to him, he will appoint the former DILG secretary as the chief of of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) or Land Transportation Office (LTO).
“I do not want to presume,” Mayor Duterte said when asked about what his plans to escalate traffic are jamming in the country if he will be given a chance to sit as the next president of the Republic of the Philippines.
The two respective persona of the country are now gearing up for the upcoming election along with Senator Grace Poe, Senator Miriam Santiago and Vice-president Jejomar Binay.
“But since you asked, here is what I will do: I will appoint my good rival and friend Mar Roxas to the top post of either the MMDA or the LTO,” he said.
“I believe he can lead at this level, so I will give him the opportunity.”
“If he does well, and he’s able to solve the problems on his plate, maybe he can try running again in 2022.”
But before the candid phone interview of Mayor Duterte with Top Gear Philippines’ Vernon Sarte ended, he jokingly said, “Happy April Fool’s Day.”
Meanwhile, Senator Grace Poe is currently leading the presidential slot according to the latest Pulse Asia survey commissioned by the network giant ABS-CBN. The presidential candidate leads with 28 percent of vote preference.
Mayor Duterte on the other hand landed on the second spot with 24% and VP Jejomar Binay with 23%, Roxas 19% and Santiago with only 2%.
