Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago Extends Medical Leave
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago won’t be seen in the Senate as she extends her medical leave due to a medical condition called anorexia or the inability to eat.
In a report by CNN Philippines, Sen. Santiago developed anorexia as a side effect of one of her anti-canc3r medications.
The Senator sent a letter addressed to Senate President Franklin Drilon saying that the eating condition makes her “Physically and mentally weak.”
Senator Santiago was diagnosed with a stage 4 lung c@ncer in 2014 but still managed to run for the 2016 Presidential elections. She also joined an international clinical trial to acquire free access of a pill for the life-risking condition, which is still unnamed.
In the recent elections, Santiago remained below the five candidates in the presidential race. She will end her senatorial term on June 30 which will be the inauguration of the incoming president Rodrigo Duterte.
Senator Santiago wrote in the letter:
“This signifies that I shall continue on medical leave for can3r. One of the medications has produced as a side effect of anorexia (inability to eat), which renders me physically and mentally weak.
In any event, my staff and I shall be ready to vacate our offices by 30 June 2016. Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Miriam Defensor-Santiago”
The good Senator has the most number of bills filed and authored among the most important laws in the Philippines. Even with her achievements locally and internationally, the partial and unofficial votes only went or a million votes, unlike the over 15 million votes for Duterte.
Will Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago recover from her condition?
Is the pill she’s taking really effective?
