Why Duterte Wants Robredo To Be His Assistant President
President Rodrigo Duterte has been already declared as the winner of the May 9 elections as proclaimed by the Congress as well as Vice President-elect Leni Robredo, Duterte’s so-called Assistant President.
In previous reports, VP Leni Robredo was still not given any position in Pres. Duterte’s Cabinet. Though, VP Robredo is hoping to be given with a post regarding the anti-poverty programs by the government. Duterte even said that he’s not even thinking about it.
But in an interview by Rappler, before Robredo won the elections, President-elect Duterte wanted to give a certain unique position to VP Robredo – being the Assistant President.
Duterte clarified that this is not the Vice-presidential position but something else he didn’t elaborate.
He just said that this position is similar to the deputy mayors that he created when he was the mayor of Davao City to represent other people groups.
“I created the deputy mayors’ office for the Tausug, Maranaw, Iranon, lahat (all),” Duterte said.
And when asked why he picked Robredo, Duterte then said that he was shy to tell. Until he admitted to the reports.
“Maganda siya. Maganda talaga siya. Basta maganda siya.” [She’s beautiful. She’s really beautiful. She’s just beautiful.]
Then, Duterte got serious and immediately apologized on Robredo saying that he hopes that she won’t be offended. Duterte said that the Assistant President post will be given to Robredo since Duterte has no position to give.
He also pointed out that if it’s okay with her, it would be also okay for him.
For the open mind
The list of the Cabinet members of President Duterte is about to be completed and up until now, Duterte hasn’t given VP Robredo any Cabinet position. Does Duterte really want Robredo to be his Assistant President?
