Davao City Mayor and upcoming 16th Philippine President Duterte will implement a 1 AM curfew for commercial establishments once seated as the president.

According to a report on GMA News, Duterte said that if he becomes president, he will really give a 1 AM curfew just like in Davao where he led.

“Gusto niyo akong maging presidente? ‘Pag ako nag-presidente, ala-una sarado na ‘to. Uwi na kayo. Ginagawa ko sa Davao; bakit hindi ko gagawin dito?” Duterte said as quoted in the report.

[You want me to be president? If I become the president, this (establishment) will be closed at 1 AM. Go home. I did this to Davao; why should I not do this (nationally)?]

The mayor recalled on a party thrown by a friend at a resort and casino in Manila.

According to him, this is because of the consideration of the welfare and the safety of the staff and the young customer of these establishments.

“It pisses me off, really, to hear it na yung mga Pilipina pagta-trabahuin mo tapos ‘tong mga foreigners — wala ‘kong paki-alam sa foreigners, umalis na sila,” the mayor said.

[It pisses me off, really, to hear it that Filipinas will be working while these foreigners – I don’t care about foreigners, let them go.]

This even caused him and fellow Davao City politician Prospero Nograles to have a rift towards each other since Nograles has a hotel in Davao wherein Koreans are allowed to smoke in the hotel.

According to Duterte, this curfew is part of the “sweeping” reforms that the upcoming president is looking forward for Metro Manila and the whole Philippines when he becomes President.

  1. I wish he would implement proper training for motorcyclists .It would help reduce the fatalities (currently 6 deaths per month in cebu) of young people on our roads. Toughen up the rules for reckless drivers (licence confiscation).

  2. yeah i agree.. i am native from cebu and i believe proper training would be one. But most of the accidents is because the driver in under the influence of liquor. Cebu needs to be develop.. proper pedestrian, stop lights, no helmet no travel, traffic rules would be strictly implemented. When i first got my motorcycle I realized driving in cebu and manila is very extreme lahi ra. When i drive in cebu.. drive na drive lang.. then stop pag makarating na sa destination. Pero in Manila, lisod, stricto, problema pa sa sobrang traffic. But because our president is bisdak, unya mahilig pud sa motor.. dili nya lisod nga masabtan ang atong kahimtang. So go digong.. change is near at hand.

    • Good day, Richard!

As the article says, there are still consultations to be done before the implementation. The curfew was said initially for the commercial establishments like casinos, etc. Let’s just wait for the ruling.
