Revival Of “Masagana 99”” Plans By Duterte, Opposes by Farmers
President Rodrigo Duterte plans revive the “Masagana 99” of Ferdinand Marcos opposes by groups of farmers for its possible results.
During the visit of President Duterte in Tuguegarao City after the devastation of Super Typhoon Lawin in the area. The president said that he likes the idea of Marcos and he wants to revive it.
Masagana 99 was an agricultural program of former President Ferdinand Marcos in 1970’s to boost the country’s production of rice. The number 99 in the program’s title means 99 sacks of rice yielded per hectare of land in every harvest.
The president believes that Marcos’ agricultural program can help the Philippines attains self-sufficiency in rice production. In the other hand, the group named “Masipag” opposes the revival of “Masagana 99”.
