Special Elections to be Held in Five Areas.
The National and Local election is not yet over as Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to hold special elections in five areas where failure of elections were declared, chief announced Wednesday.
According to Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista, there are five areas that are set to hold the special elections as “as soon as possible” which are holding between 5, 000 to 18, 000 voters.
“Yesterday, we had a meeting. We will have special elections,” Bautista told reporters but did not reveal the areas that will be subject to it.
He, however, mentioned that the Board of Election Inspectors in certain areas failed to show up even citing an instance where ballots were switched causing the failure of elections.
Moreover, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon in a separate interview revealed areas affected by the switched ballots namely in Borongan, Eastern Samar and Hinigaran, Negros Occidental.
She also added that Binidayan, Lanao del Sur may also be declared for failure of elections adding that the problem there is they don’t have an election officer and the BEIs already left.
“Ayaw nilang mag-serve kaya hindi natuloy ang elections,” she said.
She said that the police trainers that the Comelec trained could be the special board of election inspectors to pursue election in the area.
Former BEIs in the area withdraw service in the election because of the safety risk.
During the election, Comelec was forced to extend the voting period because of the glitches in the Vote Counting Machines.
