Philippine Catholic Church to Embrace New President, Hopes for Collab.
Support to New President. Church-state Collaboration. For Philippine Catholic Church, there is nothing wrong if the two will support each other however should maintain a “critical collaboration” in the side of the church with the government.
In an interview on Radyo Veritas on Saturday, Caritas Manila executive director Father Anton Pascial said that the PCC is open for collaboration with the administration of whoever will win the presidency come May 9, 2016 elections.
Pascual said that the Church can collaborate with the new president as long as the both agree with the freedom of religion, respect for the dignity and rights of every person and concern for the environment.
“The church is always in favor of critical collaboration with the government, to avoid abuses and illegal actions at the expense of the needy.” he emphasized.
In the system where the church is separated from the government as what is being emphasized in the constitution, there are instances where the state and the church are in arguments for certain provisions.
The priest added that the collaboration with the state is necessary for “check and balance” in push for the common good.
