Here’s an update about TikToker who burned money
BSP – A TikToker is facing complaint filed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas after burning a P20 bill.
In the video, the TikTok user can be seen burning the banknote and using it to light the gin in the bottle before pouring it into the jug.
The TikTok user did not explain why he burned the money but according to cwspirits.com, burning alcohol reduces its liquid content “creating a tastier and richer drink by it being condensed.”
Apparently, burning the P20 bill is against the law.
According to Presidential Decree No. 247 which was implemented on July 18, 1973: “Prohibiting and penalizing defacement, mutilation, tearing, burning or destruction of central bank notes and coins.”
Violators found guilty of committing such may face penalties.
“Violators will then have to pay a fine of not more than PHP20,000 and/or by imprisonment of not more than five years,” said Atty. Mark Fajardo, BSP senior investigation officer.

He added that destroying banknotes and coins is prohibited since they are owned by the Republic of the Philippines.
Since the TikToker was criticized because of his act, he immediately took down the video.
However, some netizens were able to keep a record of it which helped the BSP and the Philippine National Police to locate the original uploader.
Aside from P.D. 247 violation, the TikToker is facing complaints about violating Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code due to unlawful aggression and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2022.
Meanwhile, based on PEP.ph, BSP reminded the public thru its official Facebook page on prohibiting the destruction of local currencies.
