UNCLOS Ratification: Urge By US House Dems

UNCLOS ratification was urged by the Democratic members of the US Congress’ armed services and foreign affairs committees.

UNCLOS ratification about the sea ruling following that the U.N. Arbitral Tribunal was rejected by China and continue to claim the Dispute South China Sea.

The 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Is an international treaty that provides a regulatory framework for the use of the world’s seas and oceans. It addresses the other matters as sovereignty, rights of usage in maritime zones, and navigational rights.

The Arbitration Tribunal was not participated the proceedings and refused to recognized the decision. After several years of hearing, the Tribunal give the award to the Philippines decided that the Philippines has exclusive sovereign rights over the West Philippine Sea and that China’s “nine-dash line” is invalid.

According to a report, China didn’t follow the tribunal and declared that it has no impact to them. The urge the China to abide the international order but unfortunately the China still insist to claim the South China Sea.

After sea ruling, the international system believed that China will forced to abide the international order due to international pressure. According to a report, the Democratic members of the US Congress’ armed services and foreign affairs committees called the senate to ratify the UNCLOS sea ruling.

The ruling that binding the two countries involved in the dispute of the West Philippine Sea or the South China Sea will Comply for the submission of documents and attend the case proceedings to settle the conflict.
