Instead of gifts for their wedding, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told their guests to donate to charities they personally chose.
Britain’s Prince Harry and his fiancée Hollywood actress Meghan Markle recently expressed that instead of wedding gifts from their guests, they want charity donations.
This is just one of the things that the soon to be royal couple did not follow among the tradition in royal weddings.
On their wedding on May 19, 2018, which was mentioned in a previous article, the couple has already released several names of charities that their guests can donate to.
Based on a recent article published in TIME, Prince Harry and Markle personally chose seven institutions where their guests can give their charity donations.
“The couple have personally chosen seven charities which represent a range of issues that they are passionate about, including sport for social change, women’s empowerment, conservation, the environment, homelessness, HIV and the Armed Forces,” as what was said in the official statement from Kensington Palace.
In addition, it was stated on the said released statement that the couple has no official relationship with the charities they have chosen.
Among the charity institutions that the couple chose are:
. Chiva Projects – an organization helping kids dealing with AIDS
. Crisis U.K. – the national charity for homelessness
. Corporal Scotty – a group for children of the armed forces
. Street Games – youth sports charity
. Surfers Against Sewage – the ocean conservation group
. Wilderness U.K. – which gives urban youth access to the great outdoors
They chose another charity which has a personal connection with Meghan Markle – the Myna Mahila Foundation.
This is an institution that assists in empowering women in the slums of Mumbai.
The Hollywood actress visited Mumbai and Delhi just last year and she said that it was an eye-opening experience for her, based on the article.
Prince Harry & Ms. Meghan Markle are incredibly grateful for the goodwill they have received since their engagement, & have asked that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion of their wedding considers giving to charity, instead of sending a gift. https://t.co/lzfrRmoeUv pic.twitter.com/nxrTZtIKBY
