Alyssa Valdez on Ateneo’s Miracle Comeback: “God gave me another chance to defend the crown as we as a team.”
Miracle Comeback. The Ateneo Lady Eagles may have a bad start in the UAAP Women’s Volleyball Championships against their arch rival De La Salle Lady Spikers but they managed to comeback in the second match to redeem their chance for their third-year win.
The lady eagles found their match in the stronger Lady spikers which lambasted them in their first match, 3-0. But in the must-win game two, Ateneo star player and team captain Alyssa Valdez worked for a whopping 32 points to put the defending champions back into the game.
In a miracle comeback, Valdez though missed several times in the game two of the finals but the UAAP Most Valuable Player showed no fears as the team struggled to the game two that led to fifth set.
“Pag andun ka na, fifth set, kahit ano nararamdaman mo di ba, papaluin mo na lang ang bola,” she said.
The UAAP best scorer as well proved that she was unstoppable once she is in the air becoming a threat anywhere on the court.
Valdez thanked everyone who supported their game against the Katipunan ladies.
“Pagkakita mo sa likod, nagchi-cheer lahat ng mga teammates mo, what can you ask for more? Wala na talaga akong mahihiling pa,” she added.
The Game Three of the finals will be on Saturday, the last time that Valdez will play for the UAAP.
“God gave me another chance to defend the crown as we as a team.” she said.
In her last year, Valdez bagged the season MVP award now for the third straight year. She was also hailed as the Best Scorer and the Best Server.
Kim Fajardo of the Lady Spiker was hailed as the Best Setter while May Joy Baron was named as the Best Blocker. Dawn Macandili also won two awards including Best Receiver and Best Digger Awards.
