Ceres-La Salle Stuns Singapore’s Tampines Rovers In Bacolod, Tops AFC Cup Group

Filipino football club, Ceres-La Salle defeats Singapore’s Tampines Rovers, 2-1 at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City, Tuesday evening.

Due to strong rains, the game was delayed for about an hour and it made the field a bit flooded. But, this didn’t stop the teams from playing against each other. This made the scheduled kickoff to go at 8 PM instead of 7 PM.

Even in the cold weather, the heat and the physicality of the players are still there. According to a report in ABS-CBN Sports, at about fifteen minutes that passed, one defender of the Tampines Rovers was called a hard foul by taking down Adrian Gallardo of Ceres.

Gallardo took the penalty shot by himself scoring a 2-0 lead against the visitors.

On the second half, Tampines coach V Sundram Moorthy let known scorers Billy Mehmet and Jordan Webb start the in the second half. The two gave the Singaproe side to more chances of having a goal of their own by being aggressive.

Then, in the 64th minute of the game, Billy Mehmet scored a goal against the Ceres keeper, Louie Casas.

The report says that Casas performed a significant defensive play to prevent the other team from scoring and equalizing the game.

The Singaporean team had their last attempt on the goal but, it didn’t happen and the Ceres-La Salle club win in front of home crowd.

Their win makes them the top in the Group E standings of the AFC Cup.

Ceres-La Salle now has only two games left making it really possible for the club to have a spot in the knockout rounds.
