Gilas Pilipinas Competing With Iranian For Tune-Up Match
Gilas Pilipinas was set to defy two tune-up match against former Asian champion Iran as part of their preparations for the upcoming Manila Olympic Qualifying Tournament next month.
The two games, including the “closed door” and the other will be held in Smart-Araneta Coliseum on June 7 and 8.
Like Gilas, Iran was also preparing for Olympic Qualifying Tournament, however, they will not venture in the Philippines but in other OQT which will be held in Turin, Italy simultaneously the OQT will celebrate here and in Serbia on June 5-11.
Gilas mentor Tab Baldwin was hoping that their preparation will help them for their two games.
In the report of balita.net, for their last meeting way back FIBA Asia Championships in Changsa, China, Pinoy defeated the Iranians dominated by 7-foot-2 Hammed Haddadi and their skillful playmaker, Mikkha Khamrani.
Gilas Pilipinas players were so eager to encounter again with Iranians led by Junemar Fajardo, Jason Castro, Ranidel de Ocampo, Calvin Abueva and Marc Pingris although in the first week of practice they were filled with problems and injury.
