One of the most promising point guard in the Philippine Basketball Association, Scottie Thompson will be introduce by the country’s most popular basketball team, Barangay Ginebra as their starting point guard in the upcoming opening of the PBA Governor’s Cup 2016.
The former University of Perpetual Help Altas in the NCAA, Scottie Thompson will be take the starting point guard duties from established veteran point guards LA Tenorio and Jayjay Helterbrand who played for the Gin Kings for the past few years but failed to deliver for Brgy. Ginebra.
In an interview with the media, veteran head coach and current mentor of Ginebra, Coach Tim Cone compared his decision of putting his trust to Thompson as the starting point guard is comparable to his previous decision to start then rookie Johnny Abarrientos during the early days of the former PBA MVP.
The veteran head coach of Ginebra who won a PBA Grand Slam title during his days with Alaska, coach Tim Cone hopes that their incoming point guard Scottie Thompson can be the difference-maker for Ginebra, who hasn’t won a championship in eight years.
Scottie Thompson who became an MVP awardee during his days in the NCAA was drafted fifth overall in the 2015 PBA Draft. He averaged 4.45 points, 2.45 assists, and 2.64 rebounds across 11 games in the Commissioner’s Cup but he only played an average of 15.55 minutes as he shared playing time with Tenorio, Helterbrand, and Sol Mercado.
