American boxer Jessie Vargas is determined to beat Manny Pacquiao.
WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas promises to do all his best to become a legend through defeating Manny Pacquiao.
Vargas and Pacquiao will face each other inside the ring on November 6 (Manila Time) in Las Vegas, USA.
In a media conference staged by lead promoter Top Rank Inc.in the USA, Vargas expressed he is not lacking in motivations to win the biggest fight of his career against Pacquiao.
“It [win over Pacquiao] would definitely put me on the world-wide stage – make me that boxing star that I have been looking forward to being,” Vargas said.
“Manny Pacquiao’s best performance against Timothy Bradley in his three fights was in his last fight,” Vargas added. “It was only a few months ago and I’m happy he was able to give that performance.
That way people can still see when I defeat Manny Pacquiao I will defeat a good Manny Pacquiao that is still performing at the highest level. That’s the Manny Pacquiao I want to beat.”
In 2014, Vargas, fought in the undercard of Pacquiao’s bout with Chris Algieri in Macau. After outpointing Antonio DeMarco for the WBA super lightweight title, Vargas called out Pacquiao.
Two years later, there he go! He is getting his long-time wish.
“I have been waiting for this for a long time and I’m glad it’s here and I am going to take advantage of it,” he said.
Before getting into the ring, Vargas said he is aware of the consequences of a resounding win over Pacquiao, a first-ballot Hall of Famer once he becomes eligible.
The fighters who have defeated Pacquiao included Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have strengthened their positions as legends of the sport.
For his part, the American boxer wants to join that elite list.
“The only fighters to beat Manny Pacquiao have become legends themselves. So I plan to become one of the few to beat Manny Pacquiao and also become one of the legends,” he said.
