Philippine Army Dragon Boat Team Wins 4 Gold Medals In Australia

The Philippine Army Dragon Boat Warriors came home after winning four gold medals and a silver during the 10th IDBF Club Crew World Championships.

In a report in ABS-CBN News, it states that the team won golds in the in the 2000m premier open, 500m premier open, 200m mixed, and the 200m premier open.

Also, the Army Team won one silver medal in the 500-m premier open event.

The team already won two gold medals in Ravenna, Italy wherein female Army participants were exposed on the world championship level.

According to the report, the Army Dragon boat team dedicated their performance for the heroes who sacrificed their lives in Basilan for the Day of Valor.

The team was headed BGen Joselito Reyes, and team manager Lt. Col. Marlowe Patria who are expected to give a courtesy call to Army chief, Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año.

The Philippine Army Dragon Boat Team is composed of members of the Philippine Marines, Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine Navy. Some civilians were also involved.

Among the countries that the team Philippines has competed are Australia, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

The dragon boat came from China. It is a tradition in the country wherein the dragon boat was made out of teak wood from Pontianak, Indonesia. The boats are being designed.

They are being paddled manually by a number of people paddling in sync. There’s a member of the team who is responsible for making a beat which decides the phase of the paddling.

Then, this tradition became a sporting event under the International Dragon Boat Foundation joined by countries around the world. Other federations include the ADBF (Asian Dragon Boat Foundation) and EDBF (European Dragon Boat Foundation).
