ENGKANTO DISCO GOES VIRAL – The Philippines has several superstitious beliefs, and a large portion of those superstitions come from places like Bohol.
Recently, Boholanos were spooked by what they called as “Engkanto Disco”. Last week, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho (KMJS) went viral as they featured the the “disco ng mga engkanto”.
What’s more intriguing was the fact that the drum beats were not an isolated event. Several villages in Bohol had similar accounts of the drum beats causing more mystery.
Even though it’s heard in different areas, there were similarities between the accounts. For example, residents started hearing the drum beats late at night. Some Facebook netizens said that they heard the drums as late as 11:00 p.m.
Along with this, others said that you would be at awe when your heard the beat. One netizen commented:
Yung tunog mamangha ka talaga. Hindi siya usual na disco iba-iba yung beat. Wala talagang boses ng tao
Because of the increasing complaints from residents, even soldiers and police officers tried to investigate the issue. However, they asserted that there were no disco houses in the areas where the mysterious sounds were heard.
According to an article from Philstar, one of the police officers investigating the Engkanto Disco said:
Malakas yung tunog. Parang may nagtatambol. Maririnig ng halos apat o limang barangay. Wala namang beerhouse dito. Walang disco
Meanwhile, a resident said that the mysterious sounds started when the Kilab-Kilab falls was developed. He explained that if it weren’t for the development of the falls, no one would have died.
The resident added that because the area is now cemented, this was when the mysterious forces started to take lives. Furthermore, he said that it was because a payment was paid for the development that “they” started celebrating.
