#WalangPasok: June 6, 2025, Friday Declared Regular Holiday

Malacañang has officially declared June 6, 2025, a Friday, as a regular holiday in the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice. This announcement was made through Proclamation No. 911, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin on May 21, under the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Eid’l Adha

The date for the holiday was set following the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, which based its decision on the Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar. Eid’l Adha is one of the two major Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide, marking an important religious event in Islam.

The Feast of Sacrifice commemorates the story of the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) devotion and obedience to Allah when he was willing to sacrifice his son as an act of faith. To honor this event, Muslim families perform the sacrifice of an animal—usually a goat, sheep, cow, or camel. The meat from this sacrifice is then divided into three parts: one portion for the family, another to be shared with relatives, and the last part to be given to the poor and less fortunate members of the community.

This holiday is a significant cultural and religious observance that highlights themes of faith, sacrifice, charity, and community spirit among Filipino Muslims. The declaration of Eid’l Adha as a regular holiday aims to promote respect and understanding for the Muslim population in the country, recognizing their traditions and contributions.

With the official holiday on June 6, schools, government offices, and many private institutions nationwide will suspend classes and work, allowing everyone to participate in or acknowledge the celebration. This move underscores the government’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural diversity in the Philippines.
