LPA Brings Rain to Mindanao and Palawan

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported this afternoon, April 28, 2025, that a Low Pressure Area (LPA) continues to influence the country’s weather conditions.

As of 3:00 PM today, the LPA was located approximately 735 kilometers east of General Santos City (6.8°N, 131.7°E). It remains embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), currently affecting Palawan and Mindanao. Meanwhile, Easterlies are influencing weather patterns over the rest of the country.

According to Pagasa, Caraga and the Davao Region are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.

The rest of Mindanao and Palawan will also see cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, mainly caused by the ITCZ. Similar hazards, including flash floods and landslides, remain a concern as localized downpours are likely.

For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These weather disturbances are attributed to the prevailing Easterlies. While generally fair weather is expected, severe thunderstorms could still trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

In terms of wind and coastal water conditions, extreme northern Luzon will experience light to moderate winds coming from the east to northeast, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate at 1.2 to 2.1 meters. The rest of the country will have similar wind conditions, with slightly calmer coastal waters measuring 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

Temperature extremes for the past 24 hours showed a minimum temperature of 24.7°C recorded at 6:30 AM, while the maximum temperature peaked at a hot 34.7°C around 1:00 PM. Relative humidity ranged from a minimum of 52% at 1:00 PM to a maximum of 74% earlier today at 5:00 AM.

Pagasa advises the public to remain vigilant for updates and to take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
