The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned that at least 18 areas across the Philippines may experience a “danger” level heat index on Saturday, April 12. The forecast indicates that these areas could register heat indices of 42°C or higher, posing serious health risks to the public.

According to PAGASA, Sangley Point in Cavite City is expected to record the highest heat index at a scorching 45°C. This level of heat falls under the “danger” classification, which ranges from 42°C to 51°C. Under this classification, there is an increased likelihood of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke with prolonged exposure or physical activity.
Other areas expected to experience dangerous heat indices include Dagupan City in Pangasinan; Echague in Isabela; Camiling in Tarlac; Ambulong in Tanauan, Batangas; Iloilo City in Iloilo; and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
Also on the list are Tuguegarao City in Cagayan; Cubi Point in Subic Bay, Olongapo City; San Ildefonso in Bulacan; Infanta in Quezon; San Jose in Occidental Mindoro; Cuyo in Palawan; Virac in Catanduanes; Masbate City in Masbate; Roxas City in Capiz; Dumangas in Iloilo; and Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte.
The heat index is a measure of what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. PAGASA uses this metric to warn the public of potential health hazards, especially during the hot, dry season.
The agency continues to advise the public to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and wear lightweight and light-colored clothing. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions are urged to take extra precautions.
PAGASA further reminded local government units to be alert and ready to assist or cooling stations if necessary. Regular monitoring of weather updates is strongly encouraged to avoid heat-related incidents.
