Pagasa 5 PM Forecast: On Severe Tropical Storm Gorio

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported at 5:00 PM on Monday, August 11, 2025, that Severe Tropical Storm Gorio (international name: Podul) has slightly decelerated as it continues its movement over the Philippine Sea.

Typhoon Gorio Update

As of 4:00 PM, the storm’s center was located approximately 1,060 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon, near coordinates 20.5°N, 132.0°E. Gorio carries maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 135 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 985 hPa. It is currently moving west-southwestward at 20 kilometers per hour, with strong to storm-force winds extending outward up to 300 kilometers from its center.

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) are currently in effect. However, Pagasa warned that a further southward shift in the forecast track could prompt the possible hoisting of TCWS No. 1 over Extreme Northern Luzon within the next few days.

While Gorio is not expected to directly affect the country within the next 72 hours, its influence will still be felt in coastal conditions. Moderate seas, with wave heights reaching up to two meters, are expected over the coastal waters of Extreme Northern Luzon. Pagasa strongly advises operators of motor bancas and small vessels to take extra precautions or avoid sailing, particularly if inexperienced or using poorly equipped boats.

Based on current track forecasts, Gorio will continue westward over the next 12 hours before turning west-northwestward from Tuesday afternoon, August 12, until the end of the forecast period. The storm is projected to make landfall over Taiwan’s eastern coast on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) later that evening.

Pagasa also noted that Gorio may intensify into a typhoon before reaching Taiwan, but is expected to weaken afterward as it moves further away.

Residents and mariners in Northern Luzon are urged to remain vigilant and regularly monitor official weather updates, as any change in Gorio’s path could alter the forecast and potential impacts on the country.
