Pagasa Latest Forecast on Tropical Depression Fabian

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported this afternoon that Tropical Depression Fabian is now on its way out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), moving west-northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour. As of 4:00 PM today, the center of Fabian was estimated to be 245 kilometers west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (18.3°N, 118.2°E).

Fabian is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 55 kilometers per hour. Its central pressure is at 1006 hPa, and strong winds extend up to 100 kilometers from the center. However, no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) are currently in effect, as the system is not expected to make landfall or directly impact any land areas in the Philippines.

PAGASA assured the public that Fabian poses no significant threat to local weather conditions within the country over the forecast period. Nonetheless, it will continue to influence sea conditions, particularly in the coastal waters of Northern Luzon. Moderate seas, ranging from 1.0 to 2.0 meters, are expected, prompting a precautionary advisory for mariners operating small vessels, such as motor bancas.

“Operators of small boats are urged to exercise caution and, if possible, avoid venturing out to sea, especially if they are inexperienced or their vessels are not properly equipped to handle moderate sea conditions,” PAGASA said in its bulletin.

The weather bureau further stated that Fabian is expected to continue on its west-northwest track and exit PAR tonight. Once it leaves the country’s monitoring area, it is forecast to weaken into a remnant low due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions and increasing distance from the Philippine landmass.

Despite Fabian’s minimal threat, PAGASA reminds the public and maritime communities to stay updated through official bulletins, especially as sea conditions may still pose risks for smaller vessels.
