PAGASA: Low Pressure Area Near PH Brings Heavy Rain

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Thursday afternoon that a low-pressure area (LPA) located east of Mindanao is projected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within the next 24 hours. As of 3:00 PM, the weather disturbance was situated approximately 1,120 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.

Pagasa Weather Update

According to PAGASA weather specialist John Manalo, while the LPA has not yet intensified into a tropical depression, its associated trough is already affecting parts of the country, bringing unsettled weather conditions.

In its 4:00 PM forecast, PAGASA stated that the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” continues to influence weather patterns over Luzon and the western portions of the Visayas and Mindanao. The trough of the approaching LPA, meanwhile, is impacting the rest of the archipelago.

Weather Forecast Highlights:

  • Areas such as MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, and Quezon are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon. PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides as rains may become moderate to heavy at times.
  • The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao are under the influence of the trough of the LPA, with similar weather conditions and risks.
  • Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms that could cause localized flooding or landslides, especially during severe thunderstorms.

Wind and Coastal Conditions:

  • Moderate winds from the southwest to south will prevail over the northern and western sections of Luzon, resulting in moderate sea conditions with wave heights from 1.2 to 2.1 meters.
  • The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds from the southwest to west, with slight to moderate seas ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.

Temperature Extremes:

  • The day’s highest temperature reached 33.2°C at 2:00 PM, while the coolest was 26.6°C recorded at 4:35 AM.
  • Relative humidity ranged from a high of 93% at 2:00 AM to a low of 61% at 2:00 PM.
