The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has released its weather forecast for September 7, 2024, with the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) affecting Luzon.
Batanes and Babuyan Islands:
These areas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. Residents are advised to be cautious of possible flooding or landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall.
Metro Manila and the Rest of Luzon:
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies will prevail, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms expected. The Southwest Monsoon remains the primary weather driver. While rainfall will generally be light, severe thunderstorms may cause flash floods or landslides in some areas.
Visayas and Mindanao:
Both regions will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly caused by localized thunderstorms. Though these will be scattered, severe thunderstorms in the area can still result in flash floods or landslides.
Forecast Wind and Coastal Water Conditions
Western and Northern Luzon:
Expect moderate to strong winds from the southwest to south, with moderate to rough coastal waters reaching wave heights between 2.5 to 3.7 meters. Boaters and coastal communities should exercise caution.
The Rest of Luzon:
In these areas, moderate to strong winds from the south will prevail, resulting in moderate to rough seas, with waves ranging from 1.5 to 2.8 meters.
Visayas and Mindanao:
Winds will be light to moderate coming from the southeast to south, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate, with wave heights between 0.6 to 2.5 meters.
The Southwest Monsoon will continue to impact Luzon, with scattered rains and thunderstorms expected, particularly in the northern regions. Residents are urged to stay informed of the latest weather updates and be vigilant against potential hazards, such as flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.
For coastal areas, particularly in Luzon, moderate to rough seas are expected, and mariners are advised to take necessary precautions.
