The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) released its weather forecast for October 16, 2024, indicating that the easterlies are affecting Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas. Easterlies are warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, typically bringing fair weather but occasionally causing isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Forecast Weather Conditions
For Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Eastern Visayas, residents can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms throughout the day. The easterlies primarily cause these weather conditions. While the overall outlook is generally fair, Pagasa warns of possible flash floods or landslides, particularly during severe thunderstorms. Citizens are advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes, especially in flood-prone or landslide-prone areas.
Similar conditions are expected in the rest of the country, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. However, these weather disturbances are attributed to localized thunderstorms rather than the easterlies. As with other areas, there is a risk of flash floods or landslides, particularly during severe thunderstorms.
Wind and Coastal Water Conditions
Pagasa also provided updates on wind and coastal water conditions. For Luzon, wind speeds are forecasted to be light to moderate, blowing from the northeast to east. Coastal waters around Luzon will have slight to moderate waves, with heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
In the Visayas and Mindanao regions, wind speeds will also be light to moderate, but the wind direction will vary from the northeast to northwest. Coastal waters in these regions will experience slight to moderate waves, with heights between 0.6 to 1.5 meters.
No Low-Pressure Areas Monitored
As of the 4:00 AM bulletin today, Pagasa reported that no low-pressure areas are being monitored for potential tropical cyclone formation. This suggests that no significant weather systems are expected to develop into a storm within the next 24 hours.
While no major weather disturbances are anticipated, Pagasa urges the public to remain cautious, particularly during severe thunderstorms, as localized heavy rainfall may still occur, leading to flash floods or landslides.
