The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released its weather forecast for October 17, 2024. Southern Mindanao will experience weather disturbances due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), while easterlies will affect Luzon and the eastern section of the Visayas.
Forecast Weather Conditions:
- Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Occidental, Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan
These areas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ. The moderate to at times heavy rains may lead to flash floods or landslides in flood-prone or mountainous areas. - The rest of SOCCSKSARGEN, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the Davao Region
The forecast predicts partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. The ITCZ may still cause some intense thunderstorms in these areas, leading to flash floods or landslides during severe downpours. - Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Eastern Visayas
These areas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. While rainfall will generally be scattered, severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods or landslides. - The rest of the country
Similar weather patterns will prevail, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Localized thunderstorms will cause these conditions, which could still lead to flash floods or landslides in affected areas.
Forecast Wind and Coastal Water Conditions:
- Luzon
Winds will be light to moderate, from the northeast to east, with slightly moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters. - Visayas and Mindanao
Winds are forecasted to be light to moderate, with directions from the northeast to northwest, and coastal waters will be slight to moderate, with waves reaching 0.6 to 1.5 meters.
Additional Forecast for Specific Areas:
- Palawan (including Kalayaan Islands) will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.
- Eastern Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies.
- The rest of the Visayas and Occidental Mindoro will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant for potential floods or landslides, especially in areas with heavy or prolonged rainfall.
