Despite the President’s verbal attacks against the European Union, the politico-economic group is still backing the government’s war against illegal drugs.
The verbal attacks of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte against the European Union (EU) will not stop the politico-economic union from supporting the intensified campaign of the Philippine government against illegal drugs.
According to EU Ambassador Franz Jessen, they are in fact coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) despite the president’s verbal attacks, to discuss ways to combat the proliferation of drug abuse in the country.
The EU has also donated P3 billion to DOH as part of their general development cooperation program.
“Indeed, we are supporting the Philippines on many different fronts. We are working closely wit the Department of Health on fighting drug abuse in the Philippines. Our initial support concentrates on one area where we, the EU, has outstanding strength; namely identification of International and National best practices in drug treatment practices”, Ambassador Jessen said.
“Our support to the Department of Health falls under our general development cooperation programme. Every year the EU supports developments in the Philippines to the tune of PHP 3 billion”, Jessen added.
