PAGASA, the Philippine weather bureau has declared on Tuesday that summer is over with the onset of the rainy season.
The announcement of PAGASA was made after rainshowers and thunderstorms has been recorded hitting Metro Manila on Monday night, May 23.
Anthony Lucero chief of PAGASA’s Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section said, “Yung nangyari kagabing pag-ulan, bahagi lang ng sunod-sunod na pangyayari sa yugto ng climate system,” which explains that the rainshowers and thunderstorms that happened last night, were part of several incoming changes in the climate system of the expected rainy seasons.
It has been stressed in a news conference that a tropical cyclone is expected to hit the country according to state forecasters. The cyclone is expected to come before the end of May. Another one is expected to hit the country in June of this year.
According to PAGASA, the country will still experience the effects of the El Niño phenomenon that will continue until the end of July.
On the other hand, La Niña condition will follow in August. It is sometimes referred to as the cold phase of ENSO. This phenomenon represent periods of below-average sea surface temperatures across the east-central Equatorial Pacific. Global climate La Niña impacts tend to be opposite those of El Niño impacts.
