JC Santos admitted that his relationship with his non-showbiz girlfriend, who was his schoolmate in high school, has already gone to the next level.
In a press conference of Lam-Ang, a highly-anticipated Filipino ethno-epic musical, JC said that he had to learn Ilocano dialect for the musical.
“Merong certain parts na nag-aral kami ng Ilocano kasi kasama naman siya dun sa kwento. May mga kailangan sabihin,” he said. “Nag-aral kami ng konti pero at least siyempre para maintindihan pa rin ng general audience sa Maynila, nag-aral kami ng Tagalog.”
When asked what makes Lam-Ang different from what most Filipinos learned from schools, he answered, “Dahil sa adaptation namin, pinakita namin ‘yung human parts ni Lam-Ang.”
“Kasi ang alam lang natin mystical being siya—na nakakapag-usap siya ng mga hayop, nakakalipad siya, or malakas siya. So ngayon ipapakita namin sa play ‘yung side niya na tao siya,” he added. “Tsaka ‘yung human side ng community—kung paano sila mag-react noong mga panahong iyon. Na kapag umuulan lang, may pangitain na-nakabase lahat sa nature.“
JC shared his preparations for the said show as he will play the titular role in a stage adaptation of the musical.
“Yung preparations nangyari na siya sa rehearsals. Kailangan malakas ang stamina,” he shared. “Kailangan ulit ng boses pang-theater. Ibang skill kasi siya, ibang disiplina. Acting with your body. Kailangan maka-perform ka sa audience sa likod.“
Meanwhile, he also shared about his relationship with his non-showbiz girlfriend. “Level up na siyempre. Nasa happy side kasi we’re getting to know each other,” he said. When asked if he wanted to settle down, he answered, “Gusto ko na madaliin siyempre. We’re enjoying each other’s company. Dun muna.“
Lam-Ang is set to play at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino at the Cultural Center of the Philippines from December 6 to 15.
