Are you also one of the ’90s kids? It was a time when bands like Eraserheads, Rivermaya, Introvoys, The Youth, Parokya ni Edgar, Yano, and many others became popular and famous. During those days, battle of the bands competitions were also a trend in schools, or anywhere there were events or gatherings. Their songs are still known to this day as “Tunog Kalye” or street sound, which continues to be listened to.
Recently, there have been blockbuster reunion concerts. Following the reunion concert of Eraserheads, Parokya ni Edgar, Rivermaya also announced their reunion concert. Before Rivermaya disbanded, Bamboo was its well-known vocalist, and later it was led by Rico Blanco.
Just the other day, it was announced that after 26 years, Rivermaya, consisting of Bamboo, Rico Blanco, Mark Escueta, and Nathan Azarcon, will be reuniting on stage. Live Nation Philippines is organizing its first large-scale domestic concert in February 2024 at the SMDC Festival Grounds, coinciding with the group’s 30th-anniversary celebration. This immediately trended, and many fans expressed their excitement about the upcoming performance, eager to revisit the nostalgia brought by the group’s songs.
Yano, known for songs like Banal na Aso, Tsinilas, State U, Trapo, and many others which featured lyrics with anti-government and pro-masses themes, was also popular among the 90’s youth. Given this, there’s been speculation about the safety of Yano’s vocalist, Dong Abay, if a reunion concert were to happen.
Dong Abay promptly addressed this on his Facebook and stated that there won’t be a Yano reunion concert. Here is the content of his post.
