Christian Converts Rising Mostly In Austria, Reports Say

Christian Converts are increasing nowadays, especially in the country of Austria.

Muslims have the higher number of those who convert to Christianity this 2016, according to reports.

According to Austrian website Kurier, 83 adults were to be baptized in Vienna this year.

Friederieke Dostal of the Austrian Bishops’ Conference estimated that nearly half of them were Muslims, which were from Syria, Afghanistan, and Iran.

Because of this, there is a higher expectation of Muslim converts in 2017 due to the fact that there is an increase in the number of refugees arriving in Vienna in the past few months.

Conversion has its long, and careful process that has to take place, known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.

This process takes up to one year to complete.

As of the moment, the Archdiocese in Vienna is handling 5 to 10 adult baptisms requests per week.

Being a convert of Christianity can have serious implications.

Cristoph, an elderly refugee from Afghanistan who lived in Vienna since 2012, said, “This could be my d3ath sentence.”

Speaking about his conversion, he said, “A friend brought me a Bible from Pakistan. I read it in secret, only at home. But I it every day.”

In the past, he was t0rtured by the Taliban before he escaped the country.

But according to him, the obvious increase of refugees in Vienna made him feel less safe in the country.

He said, “In Austria, it was once very safe for converts, that has changed due to the strong migration movement.”

“The refugee quarters can be dangerous, which deters many from them.”

But despite the dangers and consequence of it, he said: “Christianity is the true religion, there is no turning back for me.”
