Sonny Belmonte: Ph Is 1 Of 9 Countries Without National ID System

Sonny Belmonte recently proposed for the national identification system for all Filipinos.

Sonny Belmonte, Quezon City representative, revives the idea of the national identification system in the Philippines recognizing the fact of its benefits and the re-aligning of the country to other countries.

According to the said representative, the country is one of the nine countries in the whole world that doesn’t have a national identification system.

Discussing its advantages, Belmonte said, “The national identification card will lower costs, streamline transactions, and provide ease and convenience“. Further, the identification system upholds privacy for the citizens.

These led him to proposing House Bill 12 which proposes the establishment of a Filipino identification system. All Filipinos, whether living inside or outside of the country, are required to comply if this would be passed.

Aside from the serial number from the Philippine Statistics Authority, the identification card will entail the name, picture, date of birth, gender, issued date of the card, and signatory of the owner.

Recently, a video posted on Rappler’s Facebook account gained a lot of commentaries from the netizens as they aired out their view on the national identification system proposed.
