SSS SICKNESS BENEFIT – Here is a guide on how much cash you can get from the Sickness Benefit offered by the Social Security System.
If you are a member of the Social Security System or more commonly called as SSS, you may be entitled to a lot of benefits aside from the SSS Loans. It is one of the biggest social insurance institutions in the Philippines where private employees and self-employed individuals are mostly members of.
One of the benefits offered by the social insurance institution is cash assistance to employees who got sick. It is called as “Sickness Benefit”.
Under the SSS Sickness Benefit, an employee who was not able to report to work due to sickness may apply and obtain some cash from the Social Security System. In this article, we post a guide on how much cash you can get under this offer.
Before checking on the amount, let us first check on the conditions set under the said SSS benefit. The SSS member must:
- be absent from work due to sickness for at least four(4) working days
- have paid not less than three(3) monthly contributions within the twelve(12) months of the semester prior to getting sick
- have used all of his or her paid sick leaves
- have sent due notification to his or her employer or to the SSS regarding his or her sickness
How much cash you can get under the SSS Sickness Benefit?
According to SSS, the amount is equal to 90% of the average daily salary credit (ADSC) of the member. Here is a sample computation from SSS:
1. The semester when the SSS member got sick covers July 2017 to December 2017.
2. From July 2016 to June 2017 which are the last twelve(12) months before the semester when the member got sick, the six(6) highest monthly salary credits would be chosen.
3. For example, the highest monthly salary credits is Php 16,000.00 per month. The total salary credits for six(6) months is Php 96,000.00.
4. Divide the total monthly salary credit which is Php 96,000.00 by 180 days. It will get you Php 533.93 – it is your average daily credit.
5. The SSS Sickness Benefit allowance is equivalent to 90% of your ADSC thus you will have to multiply it by 90. You will get Php 480.00.
6. Your ADSC will be multiplied based on the number of days you are approved under the Sickness Benefit. If you are qualified for it for twenty(20) days, you will get Php 9,600.00
