Here are the best soaps for dry skin
DRY SKIN – This skin condition is one of the most common without considering the factors of age and gender but there are actually most-recommended soaps to moisturize the skin.
Based on the article from Healthline, people who have this skin condition should avoid these following ingredients in soaps:
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
This is considered as a surfactant which has a drying effect on the skin and can cause further drying in people with already dry skin, according to Nikola Djordjevic, MD, a doctor and co-founder of MedAlertHelp.org.
Added fragrances and alcohol
According to Rhonda Klein, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and partner at Modern Dermatology, those who have dry skin should avoid added fragrances and alcohol in bath soaps. These can add to the dryness of the skin and can also cause irritation.
Jamie Bacharach, a licensed naturopath and the head of practice at Acupuncture Jerusalem said, “Companies that compromise on the quality and chemical composition of their soap in order to achieve a certain color aesthetic are not putting their customer’s skin first.” She said that synthetic colors will have an adverse effect on the skin and it will just add to the dryness.
Meanwhile, here are the ingredients that one should look for in bath soaps:
“Any natural soap containing vegetable oils, cocoa butter, olive oil, aloe vera, jojoba, and avocado are perfect for dry skin,” Dr. Djordjevic explained.
This ingredient will provide the skin with enough moisture.
Lanolin or hyaluronic acid
Lanolin is an ingredient from the oil secreted from the sebaceous glands of sheep. It is known to have moisturizing and conditioning properties for the hair and skin. Meanwhile, hyaluronic acid is a key molecule involved in skin moisture.
