Baby Trina was born too hairy, her parents wondered what happened to her, a dermatologist explained her condition
A baby girl in Maasim, Sarangani was born too hairy beyond the normal hair a new born could have.
The parents of baby Trina, not her real name, were shocked upon seeing the condition of their child.
Her face is almost covered with hair as well as the other parts of her body such as the legs, arms and back.
Based on the article recently published in ABS CBN News, the mother of the said too hairy baby associated the condition of her child to the food she was frequently eating when she was pregnant, which is a vegetable dish from a bamboo shoot.
However, Dr. Tess Ferrariz, a dermatologist, explained the condition of baby Trina according to the field of medicine.
Ferrariz said that the too hairy child has a hypertrichosis or “werewolf syndrome”.
She added that there is no cure on the said condition; however, it can be treated through laser hair removal treatment to remove the excess hair.
People should not fear those people who have this condition, according to the dermatologist, mentioned in the report.
Despite that baby Trina is too hairy; her parents said that though they cannot change her condition, they are still thankful for she was given to them as a blessing.
Hypertrichosis is explained by science as “excessive hair growth over and above the normal for the age, sex and race of an individual, in contrast to hirsutism, which is excess hair growth in women following a male distribution pattern,” based on the site of DermNet New Zealand.
In addition, this condition can develop all over the body or just a certain part and it can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired (arises later in life).
Its cause is still unknown, based on the medical website.
