Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV)
If you have been updated on the internet, for sure you have seen various articles talking about the danger of eating tilapia. According to an article published by Amazetify, the big issue with regards to eating tilapia is that the majority that we are buying in the market grown in unnatural conditions, which is mostly bred in factory farms. And it can greatly cause harm to our overall health.
Now, it’s not just the issue because according to a new study just recently, a virus strain was identified that can affect the world’s famous tilapia.
In a report by Agence France-Presse to ABS-CBN News, the virus was called Tilapia Lake Virus (TiLV), it was identified in both wild and farmed tilapia fish.

According to researches, TiLV is related to the family of influenza virus. This kind of virus can cause brain swelling and could destroy our organ cause liver disease.
Avi Eldar of the Kimron Veterinary Institute said, “We are shifting our focus now to implementing diagnostic tests for containment of infection to developing vaccines to prevent disease.”
On the other hand, researchers admitted that they don’t have sufficient information as to where the virus really came from and how does it affects a certain place in just a matter of time.
Dated last 2009, TiLV affected the Kinneret Lake were there are wild species and known as the Sea of Galilee. Two years later, same virus affected Ecuador.
