What Happens To Your Body When You Swallow A Chewing Gum

For sure you have heard that old story about chewing gum that if you swallow them, it would take 7 years to pass it through your digestive system. Well, if you are a kid, then probably you will believe to this one, but if you are like me who are still seeking for an answer and basis for this, then this article might be the long lost answer you’ve been looking for.

When we were still a kid, our parents often warn us about swallowing a chewing gum. Were they right? and can it really cause damage to your body?

I am pretty and definitely sure that for once in your life you have swallowed a chewing gum or even that bubble gum. Maybe not intentionally, but it can easily happen while you’re talking, or drinking or doing  something and forget all about the gum in your mouth. And at that moment, you’re probably wondering of something bad can happen to you.

Is it true? Chewing gum really takes 7 years to go through your digestive system? Can it really wrap around your stomach? Or even your heart?

So the next time you swallow a gum, don’t worry because all these warnings are actually just myths.

Here’s the truth:

Chewing gum consists of resin, fat, additives and wax, which are know to be non-digestive compounds, but people constantly consume a lot of indigestive ingredients and our stomach still manages to digest them and get them out of our body.

The parts of chewing gum which are indigestible will simply pass all the way through your digestive system until they literally exist along with the excrement.

But if you have swallowed a couple of gums in a short period of time, some issues may arise. The digestive system won’t be able to absorb them and can cause a full digestive system blockage.

This mostly happens with small children, and this really needs medical attention necessarily.
