2017 bar topnotcher: I thought I’d score 84 at most

Mark John Simondo, the 2017 bar topnotcher shares the story about his expectation on the result of his examination.

The law student who graduated from University of St. La Salle in Bacolod, Negros Occidental said that he thought he would just score 84 percent last November 2017 bar exams.

Simondo did not expect that he will be able to get the grade of 91.05 percent.

The bar topnotcher who is also a Nursing graduate related as well that his reason in taking up Law was because he does not want to work abroad, based on the report in The Philippine Star.

“My parents were pressuring me to go abroad and be a nurse in New Zealand or Australia, but I felt that the Philippines is where I should be. So I needed to find a course that will justify my stay here,” Simondo shared.

Before he finally considered taking up Law, the topnotcher from Bacolod said that he has other options – Medicine and Accountancy. His final decision was Law and that brought a big change in his life now.

Simondo also shared that his expectations about his score is way lower than what he actually got during the most recent bar examination.

“I tried calculating my score based on my standard. At most, I figured that I might get 83 or 84. Perhaps, I could go as low as 73 or 74. Getting a 91 is really something that I did not expect,” he said.

Regarding his career plans, the new lawyer prefers to specialize in corporate law but he is also open for the option in the field public service.

He said that he is not still certain to stay in his hometown because the practice of corporate law is just limited in Bacolod.

Nevertheless, the 2017 bar topnotcher with certainty said that he put to good use his profession for the country.

“At the end of the day, we are still a nation of law, not of men. The rule of law should prevail. I will see to it that I will do my part in upholding the rule of law,” he said, based on the article.
