President Rodrigo Duterte Supports Sogie Bill With Some Compromises – Roque
DUTERTE ON SOGIE BILL– Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque reiterated that President Duterte supports the SOGIE Bill.
For a couple of years now, the SOGIE bill has become a point of controversy in almost every administration. But recently, the Pope himself said that he was in favor of members of the LGBTQIA+ to get married.
This sparked a fresh debate in the Philippines regarding the future of the SOGIE Bill backed by Senator Imee Marcos. The Senator said:
“Sabi ng Santo Papa, ‘Homosexual people have the right to be in a family. They are children of God.’ Tayong lahat ay anak ng Diyos, na lahat ring minamahal ng Panginoon. Amen po.”
Meanwhile, according to Roque, Duterte also gives his support to the SOGIE bill. But, he reiterates that the President does have his compromises for the bill.
According to an article from CNN, Roque said:
Itong SOGIE bill naman ay itinataguyod din ang karapatan na maging pantay-pantay ang lahat ng Pilipino, suportado rin iyan ng Presidente…
Sang-ayon po siya sa na magkaroon ng batas na iiral doon sa relasyon ng kaparehong kasarian…
But, Roque emphasized that Duterte is still against same-sex marriage whether it be a church or civil wedding. Furthermore, despite his support, Roque said the President would not interfere in an issue concerning the Congress.
