Educators Who Served During Election Still Unpaid
Alliance of Concerned Teachers denounced the Department of Education and the Commission on Election for the constant failure to pay the educators who served last national elections, especially those who served as Board of Election Inspectors and support staff.
ACT did the condemnation because of the reports that there are still many teachers who served as BEI and support staff last election, who continue on waiting for their compensation or honorarium from the Comelec.
ACT National Chairman Benjie Valbuena criticised that the election is already done yet the honorarium that supposed to be received by the teachers is not yet given to them despite betting their lives on carrying out their duties just to ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and peacefulness of the election particularly to the breakdown of the Vote Counting Machines.
In the report of Philstar, Valbuena said, the cause of compensation delays is the reason for the teachers to be afraid on serving the election. Most of them are tired and hungry during the election because there’s no food and no ride.
He said, based on R.A. 10756 or Election Service Reform Act that the compensation should be given directly to the BEIs, DepEd supervisors, and other support staffs within 15 days after the election.
According to him, the Comelec should not wait to push the time limit for payment because the teachers have the right for their compensation.
According to the complaints received by ACT, many teachers in the country was given the ATM card and cash card without funds. Valbuena said, “Ginampanan ng mga guro ng maayos ang kanilang trabaho kaya dapat bayaran nila kami.”
