Iglesia Ni Cristo Endorses Duterte
Known for their unified people and bloc-voting, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) is expected to support the following senatorial candidates: Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, incumbent Senators, Ralph Recto and Vicente “Tito” Sotto; Senate President Franklin Drilon; former senators Panfilo Lacson, Juan Miguel Zubiri and Francis Pangilinan. Belongs to the group are Rissa Honteveros, Joel Villanueva, Win Gatchalian, Martin Rumualdez and Francis Tolentino.
As shown to Manila Bulletin by a certain reliable INC sources, the sample ballots indicated the INC’s party-list choices such as SBP and Kabayan. However, it was explained by a certain source that the party-list choices are to be voted by a sector on the Iglesia Ni Cristo summing up to an estimated 2 million voting INC members, reported by Manila Bulletin.
The names which are common in all INC ballots are those who are running for national office. During their religious service last night, INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo called out for unity.
After being asked about the rumored endorsement, Duterte’s camp said that they will wait for the official announcement.
We will await their (INC) official announcement. Duterte said he would not like to look presumptuous, claiming he is the choice of the INC,” Peter Lavina Duterte’s headquarters spokesperson said.
Just recently, a fake “endorsement letter” made a loud buzz in social media sites. The viral letter contained Duterte’s name as the alleged choice of the Iglesia Ni Cristo which was immediately clarified by INC as fake.
The choice of Marcos and Duterte by the Iglesia Ni Cristo is a clear rejection to support Mar Roxas II and Leni Robredo.
Just recently, Aquino made a surprise visit to the INC headquarters in Quezon City.
